Moonrise, Bosque del Apache

2009 - Best Panorama, Annual New Mexico Photographic Arts Show

This full moonrise photograph was shot on March 24, 2005 over the main crane pool at the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico.

Many mornings and evenings this pool is covered with thousands of sandhill cranes and snow geese. However, on this quite March evening, no birds were present, leaving the the pool as a calm foreground for the rising full moon.

The title of this photograph was inspired by Ansel Adams famous moonrise photograph shot 160 miles further north over the town of Hernandez, New Mexico.
