2012 - "Best Wildlife",  Professional Photographers of America, New Mexico

“Shy in the Jungle” was shot on April 20th, 2010 at the Danaus Wildlife Refuge near the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica. As I hiked down one of the refuge trails, I spotted this juvenile Boat-Billed Heron perched at the edge of a small pond. Standing very still, we spent a long time looking at each other. At one point this shy bird pulled his wings over his long beak, peering over the top at me. This was a wonderful moment, and I was most fortunate to capture it.
